Buttolph, David Lyman

This, the last pastor of Midway Church, was born in 1822, son of David Buttolph, an attorney, in Norwich, New York. He graduated from Williams College in 1845, and Columbia Seminary in 1852. He was licensed a Presbyterian minister of the gospel by the Georgia Presbytery at Flemington on November 19, 1854.

He served as pastor of Midway Church from 1854 to 1967. He married Laura Maxwell, daughter of James Maxwell, and niece of Audley Maxwell. Their child, Charles E. Maxwell, was born in 1857 and died a year later. If they had other children, it was after they departed Liberty County just after the Civil War. He spent the latter part of his life in Marietta, Georgia, where he filled the pulpits of several churches.
