Clark (Family)

James Clark (1788-1842) married Ann Horne (1793-1872) in Beaufort District, South Carolina, on March 29, 1810. They migrated from South Carolina to Doctors Creek, McIntosh County, Georgia, an area which became a part of Long County. He was a member of the Georgia Militia during the War of 1812, and was discharged at Riceboro. He and his family moved in 1821 to Woodville Plantation in Bryan County, Georgia, on the Darien-Savannah Road near the Liberty County line, where he established a home.

 

The children of James and Ann Horne Clark are Nicholas J., John, Richard, William, Mary, Sophie, and James Clark Jr. Nicholas J. Clark (1812-1855) married (1) Susan Gould and they had one child, Susan Clark, who married Stouten Haymans Jr. (see Haymans Families), and (2) Caroline Hodges, and their children were Cornelia, James M., John C., William Nathan, Mary Jane, and Telula Clark. John Clark (1814-1893) married Mary Ham, and their children were William Nelson, Mary Etta, Laura Ann, Noble H., Hollis W., John J., and Delphia Clark. Richard Clark (1816-1886) married Esther (“Hetty”) Perry (see Perry Families in this appendix), and their children were George, Adeline, Richard Walthour, Edward, Samuel, Calvin, Albert, Alfred, and Annie Clark. William Clark (1818-1847) married Edith Rebecca Harn, and their children were James M., Annie E., Nicholas J., Virginia (“Ginny”), Frances (“Frankie “), Hartridge J., Holmes Elijah, and Richard Ward Clark. Mary Clark, born in 1822, married Jesse E. Ham, and their children were Benjamin, Eliza S., Mary Henrietta, Farley, Jesse V., Martha, Richard, William, Anna, and Rosa O. Ham. Sophie Clark (1824-1886) married John Harn, and their children who reached maturity were James Alexander, Nancy Sophia, Lemira Eugenia, Lawrence Nicholas, John Samuel, and Ellen Ophelia Harn. James Clark (1828-1894) married Mary Esther (“Hetty”) Lane, and their children were Josephine, Lawrence, James Benjamin, Alice, John, Robert Lee, Ida, Idelle Melissa, Rufus, Mary Ola (see Haymans Fami­lies), and Annie Lee Clark.
