Dawson, David I. (1874-1956)
Dawson, David I. (1874-1956) – Born in the Tison community of Tattnall County, Georgia, son of Gilbert H. and Laura S. Anderson Dawson, and grandson of Joseph and Mary Strickland Dawson, and William H. and Rachel Purcell Anderson. He graduated from Georgia-Alabama College in 1900, and was a rural school teacher from 1898 to 1903. He married (1) Ruby M. Delk , daughter of William Shelton and Sarah Ann Smart Delk of the Gum Branch community, and their surviving children were Laura Ivis, Willie Mae, and Gladys Dawson (see Hendry Families and Harold N. “Mudge” Stafford in this appendix), and (2) Jessie V. Delk, sister of his first wife, and their children were Davis Irene and Walter Everitt Dawson.
He was a member of the Liberty County draft board during World War I, and served as clerk of the Liberty County Superior Court for 22 years commencing in 1936. He was a resident of Hinesville, but a member of the Rye Patch Baptist Church, located in the first community in which he resided when he came to Liberty County.
