Floyd (Family)
Floyd, William Roan (1870-1939) – He is the son of Washington Alexander and Lucretia Tomlinson Floyd, who migrated to Liberty County from Bulloch County, Georgia, before the Civil War.
William Roan Floyd married Ida Irene Hayman (1877-1938) and they resided first in the Strumbay community, and then near Willie. Their children were George Washington, Allen James, Peyton Eugene, Mattie Irene, Charlie Carruth, Mittie Ola, William Raymond, Thomas Alexander, Marvin Francis, Myrtice Addie Lou, Frank Forrest, and Anna Fair Floyd. Descendants of two of these children were still a part of Liberty County in 1984.
George Washington Floyd (1894-1955) married Emma Estelle Porter and they relocated from Taylors Creek to Hinesville in 1941. Their children were William Harvey, Emma Erldine, Lois Carmen, Anna Laurie, Betty Jane, George Elmore, Peyton Eugene, and Joseph Allen Floyd.
Emma Erldine Floyd married (1) William Robert Berry, and they had one child, Bobbie Dene Berry, and (2) Harold Ernest Guyett Sr. and their children were Harold Ernest Jr., George Wade, Dennis Eugene, Kenneth Franklin, and Russell Alan Guyett.
Peyton Eugene Floyd, born in 1896, married (1) Georgia Martin, who died in 1930, and their children were Eugene Jackson, Claire Elizabeth, William Peyton, Earl Francis, and Charles Edwin Floyd, and (2) Fannie Lou Phillips, and their children were James Marvin and Carroll Welborn Floyd.
Earl Francis Floyd married Margaret Smiley, and their children were Carolyn, Earl Francis, Jr. and Kimberly Floyd.
William Peyton Floyd married Betty Smiley, and their children were William Peyton Jr., Julie, and Mark Floyd. Margaret and Betty Smiley Floyd are sisters, daughters of Joseph Carroll and Leola Madge Groover Smiley, and granddaughters of Hampton Wesley and Edith Matilda Long Groover (see Charles A. Groover in this appendix).
Charles Edwin Floyd married Cynthia Metzger from Clyo, Ga and their children were Charles Edwin Floyd, Jr., Wanda Sue Floyd, Richard John Floyd, Donna Kay Floyd and Lydia Diana Floyd.1
James Marvin Floyd was president of the Hinesville Bank, and chairman of the Liberty County Board of Commissioners in 1984. He was elected a state representative in 1985. He married Mary Carolyn Martin, daughter of Olivious Curry and Mary Lessie Williams Martin Jr. (see Martin Families in this appendix), and their children were James Marvin Floyd Jr. and Mary Karen Floyd.
