Hendry, Robert (1752-1830)

He was born on the Island of Aaran, Scotland, son of John Hendry. He emigrated with his parents to America before the Revolutionary War, and settled in what in 1984 was Pender County, South Carolina. He married Ann Lee of the Black River settlement of Pender County, and their children were John, Neal, William, James, Robert Jr., George, Archibald, Elizabeth Ann, and Mary Hendry. He was a member of the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War, and in 1797 migrated with his family to Burke County, Georgia.

For his Revolutionary War service he was granted 450 acres of land by the state in the upper part of Liberty County in 1816. But apparently he and his family were already on that land before the grant. Robert Hendry Jr. was born in North Carolina, but reared in Burke County, Georgia. A year after the family moved to Liberty County he married Nancy Daniel, daughter of Abram Daniel, also a Revolutionary War veteran who received a grant of land near that of Robert Hendry.

Their children were Martha Ann, John Abram, Enoch Daniel, Robert Allen, Littleberry, William Hill, Elizabeth Jane, James Tillman P., George Nathan, Alfred Iverson, James Tillman, and Mary Emerline.
