Holmes, Abiel (1763-1837)

Born in Woodstock, Con­necticut. Graduated from Yale College and married (1) Mary Stiles, daughter of Ezra Stiles, president of Yale College, and (2) Sarah Wendall, daughter of Oliver Wendall. One of their children was Oliver Wendall Holmes, the author, who was the father of U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice Oliver Wendall Holmes, He was pastor of Midway Church from 1784 to 1791.
