Mills, Wallace Fraser (1886-1970)

Born in Hinesville, son of George M. and Flora E. Fraser Mills, and grandson of Simon Alexander and Mary William Bacon Fraser. He attended Bradwell Institute, and graduated with a law degree from Mercer University at Macon, Georgia. He commenced his law practice in Hinesville in 1912.

He married Elizabeth Cassels, daughter of Richard Baxter Cassels of Flemington. They had no children. Her parents were Charles Clifton and Mamie Cassels Carson. He was pastor of the Flemington Presbyterian Church. George M. Mills was an officer in the Confederate Army during the Civil War, and was wounded during the Battle of Atlanta.

He was a school teacher, and clerk of the Liberty County Superior Court. Wallace Fraser Mills was a member of the Liberty Independent Troop when it served on federal active duty on the Mexican border in 1916-1917. He was also with the organization when it was assigned to the 31 st “Dixie” Division in France during World War 1.

He was mayor of Hinesville in 1925 and 1926, and was a state representative.
