Noble, Edward John (1882-1958)
Son of Harvey H. and Edna Lois Wood Noble of Grouveneur, New York. He was married to Ethel Louise Tinkham in 1920, and their children are June and Sally Noble. He graduated from Yale University in 1905. His earliest business venture was a candy company from which emerged the “Life-Saver”.
He purchased the Blue Network of the National Broadcasting Company in 1944. It was then absorbed by the American Broadcasting Company, of which he was chairman of the board of directors and a majority stock holder. He was a member of ABC-Paramount Theaters Corporation executive committee, and its largest stock holder, when he died.
He organized the Edward John Noble Foundation in 1940 to support educational, religious, and charitable programs. He purchased Saint Catherines Island in 1943 and it became a part of the foundation. June Noble Larkin became chairman of the board of directors of the Edward John Noble Foundation. It is through her efforts that the American Museum of Natural History has collected and published an anthropological and archaeological history of Saint Catherine Island, a part of Liberty County, which might otherwise have been lost forever.
The people of Liberty County are indebted to June Noble Larkin, and her father Edward John Noble, for efforts on their behalf.
