Stacy, James L. (1830-1912)

Born at Flemington, son of John W. and Mary Bacon Stacy. His grandfather, John Stacy, was clerk of Midway Church from 1798 to 1818, and his father was clerk of Midway Church from 1824 to 1854. He was pastor of the Newnan Presbyterian Church in New­nan, Georgia, for 43 years.

 

He collected records of Midway Church, wrote its history, and published them around the turn of the century. He married (1) Jane E. Hawley in 1855, and their children were Eva and James Hawley Stacy, and (2) Mary Jane McIver in 1860, and (3) Emily Jones Kendrick in 1867, and their children were Mary Eliza and Thomas Goulding Stacy. A marble tablet dedicated to his memory and accomplishments was unveiled at Midway Church on April 26, 1940.
