Stewart, Martha (“Patsy”) (1799-1864)

Daughter of Daniel and Sarah Susannah Oswald Stewart of Liberty County. She became the wife of U.S. Senator John Elliott (1773-1827) on January 6, 1818, and their children were Susan Elliott, born in 1820, Georgia Elliott (1822-1849), and Daniel Stewart Elliott (1826-1861). Her husband died and she married James Stephen Bulloch, and their children were Irvine Stephen Bulloch (1832-1898), Anna Bulloch (1833-1893), Martha (“Mittie”) Bulloch, and Charles Irvine Bulloch (1837-1840).

 

James Stephen and Martha Stewart Elliott Bulloch first resided in Liberty County, and then re­located in Roswell, Georgia, where they remained the rest of their lives (see James Stephen Bulloch in this appendix). Martha Stewart Elliott Bulloch was the grandmother of President Theodore Roosevelt, and great-grandmother of Eleanor Roosevelt, who married President Franklin D. Roose­velt, her fifth cousin once removed.
